Dec. 10th - Leaving La Serena, Hello Valpariso

Thankfully, we wake up to Carrie feeling about 50% of normal (with yesterday being about 1%), but she is doing well enough to hold down half a roll and the medicine that she threw up three times the day before. We decide that she's well enough to hit the road. We spend a fairly uneventful 4 hours driving south followed by an increasing pretty hour spent crossing the coast range back to the ocean.

Valparaiso is a very beautiful bohemian town of about 2o0,000 that is about on hour from Santiago. The entire town is perched between the neighboring hills and the ocean, and it reminds me very much of San Fransisco with some eastern Europe thrown in. Our hotel was perched on the bluff that hung over the main downtown district, and it ended up taking us three trips around the bluff before we found the right combination of one way roads that delivered us to our destination. The hotel was built in 1876, and featured fantastic views in every direction.

Carrie was finally feeling good enough to eat a meal, so we headed to a pizzeria that was operated by a couple that had actually lived in Italy for a number of years. We had some delicious Italian style pizza, and then wandering the narrow, twisting streets before returning to the hotel for a nightcap and sleep.

Carrie - thinking of you on your birthday...and how much happier it must be now that the revenge has left you! I have been flipping between your and Betsy's blogs to get as much of the view as I possibly can throught these wires...just not the same as being there but you cant beat play by play as it happens...gotta love technology!

We are heading to Dallas for two weeks to be with family for the holidays...again I will think of you there where your adventures began...my brother's new little Katie Grace is only one month old so we are excited to be spending some quality time with them...as will my mother be joining us there and then coming back to Boston with us for a spell before heading back to Hawaii.

Dave, so glad to hear you are having such a wonderfilled time and reasurred knowing that Carrie was in great hands through her ordeal...you are awesome together and I hope that this trip confirms that at every turn...what a honeymoon to beat all honeymoons!

Keep posting...I'll keep reading and drinking in your adventure like the wines you tasted...entoxicating...sweet...and refreshing...with just enough dry to keep you drinking!

Happy Happy Birthday!!!
Love Acacia
